I'm Kristin. I live in Seattle with my fiancé, Matt, our cat, Alabama, and our irascible dog, Fidget. My family lives in California and I have a sort of chosen family here, though I don't get out as much as I used to. I'm a recovered goth but I still wear a lot of black. It's really just the easiest thing because black matches everything. I'm all about the convenience.

I finished a bachelor's degree in Art History with a minor in Comparative Religion at the University of Washington in 2010. In the spring I had the formative experience of studying in Italy, living in Rome and traveling to Florence, Venice, and Bologna, studying mainly Renaissance and Baroque art, my main fields of study during the course of my degree. I've done some work on the Italian Futurists as well, which I'd like to pursue further. I'm putting off grad school for now, because I've been in school off and on for 12 years and finally just finished my BA and I just can't even think of the expense of it right now.

I have recently realized a longtime dream of working for myself. I do transcription and captioning, which is lovely because I get to sort of go to classes and watch TV and generally be a fly on the wall, and I get paid for it. I haven't tried my hand at pub trivia with my newfound vast repertoire of knowledge, but I bet I'd be pretty kick-ass.

I speak some Italian and some French and a little Spanish and read them even better, I make assembly lines of things, and I watch TV, and I read a LOT of books. Someday I'll figure out if I can do some art history on the side somehow, either doing independent research or -- if I might find the capital -- starting a travel company that specializes in tours rich in art history.

My journal is friends-only, after several years of being an open book. I don't know why I decided to do that; maybe it's that my journal is connected in various ways to my Facebook profile, which is under my full real name, and I censor myself a little less in this LJ, which I've had for over 10 years. (Which is kind of hard to believe, actually. Wow.) On Facebook I'm connected to family, friends, acquaintances, and perhaps future colleagues, so I tend to be a little more careful there. If you'd like to read this journal, please feel free to drop me a line. I'm usually pretty chill about it, having managed to avoid LJ drama for the most part throughout the last decade.

What I want, in no particular order, even the silly stuff:

  • the time, freedom, and financial security to travel as much as possible
  • competence in several languages: Spanish, French, Italian, and German, to start
  • a clean house
  • a healthy body, with fewer back problems and more energy
  • a fucked-uppedly stylish haircut
  • the ability to cook
  • serenity
  • passion
  • fearlessness <-- this is the one i desire the most

I like to read a lot, so here's this fancy grid from my Goodreads profile. It should show the books I'm currently reading. During school these are almost exclusively textbooks, but as I do more and more research I find it might help me stay organized in that regard. I love Goodreads. Feel free to add me to a friends list there.
